UPDATE: Aminu Tambuwal Defects To APC?

 There are reports that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has defected to the opposition party, All Progressive Congress (APC) from the ruling party, PDP, according to Premium Times.

The Speaker who is reportedly yet to make his intention of running for President in the 2015 Elections was said to have recently on Monday attended the APC meeting in his hometown, Sokoto state, sources at the meeting told PREMIUM TIMES.

Its been gathered that Tambuwal whose defection is to prepare him for the 2015 presidential election has been absent from important functions of the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Meanwhile it would be recalled in August it was reported that Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal held a secret meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Hilltop home in Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State in regards to his 2015 political ambition.

In September, it was also reported that Tambuwal had a secret meeting with top politicians from the North who are in support of his presidential ambition and are working tirelessly to ensure he runs for Presidency.

UPDATE

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has confirmed attending a meeting of the opposition party, APC on Monday in Sokoto State.

Tambuwal, who said in a statement on Monday that he will announce his decision publicly at the right time as he is still making consultation on his political future, however did not state if he has dumped the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for APC.

This is coming on the heels of the report making rounds that the speaker has defected to APC.

Meanwhile the speaker's Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Imam Imam in a statement has debunked the report that Hon. Tambuwal has defected to APC saying:

“That today, Monday, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih, led other members of the party on a reconciliation meeting to Sokoto but the Speaker of the House of Representatives and a member of the NEC of the PDP, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal CFR, was not invited to the meeting.

“That Rt. Hon Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was later invited by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, to attend the meeting of their political family to discuss the political future of Sokoto State.

“That the Speaker, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal, duly obliged and attended the meeting."

The statement said the meeting also had in attendance “prominent Sokoto citizens many of who have no known political affiliation”. The most notable was the Sardauna of Sokoto and former Minister of Finance, Abubakar Alhaji.
