No Casualties In Amosun's Convoy Accident, Says Aide

Contrary to earlier reports that two persons were injured when the convoy of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun was involved in an accident at the weekend, an aide of the governor, Mrs Olufunmilayo Wakama, has revealed that no one was injured in the accident.

The news broke on Saturday, 11 October, 2014, that Amosun's convoy was involved in an accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway leaving few people including the governor’s aides sustaining injuries.

However, a report published by P.M NEWS on Monday, 13 October, 2014, informed that the accident was not as bad as it was reported, adding that no one was injured in the accident.

Wakama, who is the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Communication, urged newsmen to always confirm their reports before publishing, warning that the dignity and integrity of the pen profession should not be spoilt.

“Let me thank everybody for their concern following accident. I want to set the records straight that Mr Governor is hale and hearty and no one in the convoy sustained any injury.

“I have stated it clear to all of them that it was just a brush and nothing more. We are the watchdog of the people and we must not write or say what is not correct.

"No one was injured in the convoy of His Excellency today, that I can confirm to you. I thank you for your patience,” Wakama said.

It was also gathered from someone who witnessed the accident that it occurred at Saapade-Ogeere road along Lagos-Ibadan expressway around 9:30 a.m., when a commercial bus rammed into the governor’s convoy, damaging one of the jeeps in the convoy.

The governor’s convoy was said to be heading towards Ibadan while the commercial bus was coming from Ibadan before they had a head-on collision.

According to the eye witness, the occupants of the commercial bus included aged women and children.

Also, Ogun State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Alhaji Yussuph Olaniyonu, who was reportedly part of the governor’s entourage, told newsmen that no one sustained any injury during the incident.

It would be recalled that the wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, recently implored residents of the state to support her husband in the 2015 elections.
