"Bombers Now Use Petrol Tankers To Carry Explosives"

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, has said that bombers have devised a new method of carrying explosives to their various targets.

The COAS spoke at a three-day interactive session on ‘military-media relations in Nigeria, with the theme: “Enhancing military-media relations towards improved security” held at 81 Division auditoriums, Marina, Lagos, yesterday.

He said, “Recent arrest and subsequent recovery of a large amount of explosives showed that bombers have resorted to hiding explosives under petrol tankers”.

He said the new device based on intelligence reports was carried out in Lagos.

However, Ihejirika noted that the greatest challenge any nation could face was internal war, and as a result, the porous nature of the Nigerian borders had given room for such upsurge.

Worried by the increasing checkpoints in some Northern parts of the country, the COAS said he acknowledged that the trend has posed a serious challenge but, said nothing could be done now for obvious reasons.
