- A branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Lagos state has been gutted by fire
- Reports indicate that the fire incident started on Sunday morning, May 9, while the cause is still yet unknown
- The incident happened as the RCCG is still in mourning, following the death of the general overseer's son, Pastor Dare Adeboye
A report by Premium Times indicates that the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish located around Alapere area of Lagos state has been engulfed with fire.
The news publication citing a video shared on Twitter on Sunday, May 9, showed the church in flames, with a number of cars, worshippers, suspected to be trapped in the premises.
Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, there are no casualties at the time of filing this report.
The incident was confirmed by a staff of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), who prefers not to be named because he is not authorised to speak.
The staff said:
“Not that it just happened now, the fire started in the morning and has since been put out.”
However, Nosa Okunbor, LASEMA spokesperson, and the church have yet to release a statement on the incident.
This development is coming as RCCG is still mourning the death of Pastor Dare Adeboye, son of the general overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the general overseer of RCCG on Friday night, May 7, spoke on the demise of his son.
Preaching at the May 2021 edition of the church’s Holy Ghost service, Pastor Adeboye urged the worshippers to always give thanks rather than ‘blame and question God’.
With biblical reference to Ezekiel 24:16, he said, “God took away Ezekiel’s wife and asked him not to mourn over her”.
In a related development, RCCG youths have taken a bold move to honour the late Pastor Dare.
Several male members of the church have gone bald and cut off their hair as a sign to show last respect for the deceased who has been widely described as a soldier.
