Northern APC Governor Reveals why Declaring State of Emergency won’t Solve Nigeria's Insecurity

Katsina state governor, Aminu Masari has reacted to the House of Representatives asking President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on security.

Recall that the lower chamber in its resolution on a motion over the worsening security situation in the country made the appeal to the Nigerian leader.

The Cable reports that Masari maintained that declaring a state of emergency will not address the nation’s rising insecurity, adding that will overstretch the efforts of security agencies.

He made the disclosure while speaking to State House correspondents on Thursday, April 29, after meeting with Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff, at the presidential villa,

He said:

“It cannot, because how can state of emergency solve the problem? You have a situation where the military are in all the states of the federation, then you ask yourself, how many do we have? Are we not overstretching them?”

Vanguard reported that the governor urged Nigerians to view the security challenges beyond partisan politics, adding that it is a national concern.

He said the solution is the commitment of every Nigerian irrespective of political and religious affiliations to a peaceful nation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the governor of Katsina stated that the challenges Nigeria is going through are part of the phases of growing up.

Masari said Nigeria will conquer all odds and emerge as a stronger Nation. The governor made the statement on Monday, April 26, when speaking with a delegation from the House of Representatives who paid him a visit over the fire incidents in the state.

He stated that some countries have experienced worse challenges than Nigeria has faced.

In a related development, Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that the state of Nigeria's insecurity was actually worse than the civil war of 1967-1970.

Adeyemi who represents the Kogi West Senatorial district made this remark during his submission at the floor of the Senate.

The lawmaker went as far as saying that the federal government cannot pretend that it can handle the situation which, in his opinion, is the worst instability in the history of the country.
