Bello Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara, has directed security agencies to henceforth demolish the houses of informants and those supplying arms to bandits in the state.
Channels TV reports that the governor issued the order on Tuesday, April 27, when he received the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, along with his council members who came to commiserate with the government and people over the recent bandit’s attack in some parts of the state.
Legit.ng gathered that this was contained in a statement signed by Yusuf Idris, the director-general on media to the governor, in Gusau on Wednesday, April 28.
Daily Trust also reports that Matawalle said the action became necessary in order to fully address the resurgence of banditry in some parts of the state.
He further said the activities of the informants are creating a lot of problems in the ongoing fight against banditry in the state and called for the support of citizens in the state in order to win the fight.
The governor noted:
“The activities of the informants is creating a lot of problems in the ongoing fight against banditry in the state."
Matawalle also directed traditional rulers in the state to be vigilant and monitor the activities of landlords and tenants in their domain, adding that this would help security agents to track and arrest suspicious persons before they wreak havoc on innocent citizens.
He also urged traditional rulers in the state to keep vigil and monitor the activities of landlords in giving out houses for rent, directing them to report any suspicious movement to security agencies for immediate action.
Governor Tambuwal in his response said he was in Zamfara to commiserate with the government and people over the recent unfortunate killing of innocent souls in the state.
Tambuwal who noted the killing of innocent souls as a serious calamity prayed for the repose of the souls of those lost during the attacks.
The governor, however, said that he was happy with the commendable efforts taken by Matawalle in handling bandits activities that decimated killings and other crimes in the state.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that armed bandits laid siege in Zamfara state as over 100 citizens were killed by the rampaging gunmen within the week.
