Atalanta defender Robin Gosens has revealed how Cristiano Ronaldo subjected him to one of his disappointments in football after refusing to exchange jerseys after a game.
The 26-year-old said was felt 'ashamed' after requesting for the attacker's top who didn't even bother to look at him before brutally snubbing his request.
Reports say the German star has been a long-time admirer of the five-time Champions League winner who joined Juventus in a £100 million move from Real Madrid in 2018.
He was delighted he could finally lay his hands on Cristiano's jersey but, his supposedly proudest moment soon turned into a nightmare after his rejection.
The said in his biography ‘Dreams Are Worthwhile’, saying according to Daily Star:
“After the game against Juventus, I tried to fulfil my dream of having Ronaldo's jersey. After the final whistle, I went to him, having not even gone public to celebrate. But Ronaldo did not accept.
“I asked, 'Cristiano, can I have your shirt?' “He didn't even look at me, he just said, 'No! I was completely blushed and ashamed. I went away and felt small.
“You know that moment when something embarrassing happens and you look around to see if anyone noticed it? That's what I felt and tried to hide it.”
Gosens' Atalanta currently sits two points ahead of Ronaldo in the Serie A table, with Juve up in third place.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have recorded three straight league wins following a 1-0 defeat against Inter Milan, who have an eight-point lead at the top of the table right now.
Antonio Conte’s men can extend that lead to 11 points by winning their game-in-hand against Sassuolo on Wednesday night.
As for Juve, they will look to claim their first win in three games against Napoli on the same evening, having lost against Benevento and drawn with Torino in their last two outings.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo was moved to tears after he watched a video showing his late father praising him for his achievements in the game of football.
His dad, Jose Dinis Aveiro, who suffered liver failure due to alcoholism died at 52 when the former Manchester United goal poacher was 20 at the time.
But the player couldn’t hold back tears when a video was played to him during a chat with Piers Morgan in 2019.
