Armed bandits kill woman returning from stream in Ogun state

- Armed bandits who have laid siege in Ogun state for many weeks now have killed a young woman

- Reports from the state say the woman was killed while she was coming back from a stream in a local government

- Ogun state border communities have been under frequent attacks by criminal gangs in recent times

A report by The Punch indicates that armed bandits have hacked a young woman, Elizabeth Pascal, to death in Ogun state.

According to the report, the incident happened on Monday, March 1 at CAC Olorunda, Moriwi community of Imeko-Afon local government area of the state.

The deceased was said to have gone to the stream to fetch water for domestic use when she was murdered by the criminals.

The traditional ruler of the area, Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oba Akinyemi said Pascal was killed by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen, who he stated had continued to terrorise the Yewa axis of Ogun state.

His words:

“She went to the stream and on her way coming, she met the Fulani herdsmen and they killed her. It happened around 3 o’clock, according to the report.”

The spokesperson of the Ogun state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, also confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said the woman was an indigene of Benin Republic, adding that her husband had come to claim the corpse and had taken it back to their country.

Meanwhile, members of a vigilante group, hunters, and some youths have rescued seven people who were kidnapped by armed bandits in Akunu, Akoko northeast local government area of Ondo state.

The vigilantes rescued the kidnapped victims who were said to be travelling to Abuja when they were abducted on Friday, February 26, on Akunu Akoko-Kabba expressway.

The victims were allegedly taken into the bush by their abductors when the hunters and youths of the community stormed the scene which is familiar terrain to them and saved the victims, while one of the kidnappers was killed during a gunfight.

Meanwhile, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Thursday, February 25, canvassed for specific prayers against kidnappers in Nigeria.

Pastor Adeboye released 15 prayer points against the armed gangs across the nation via social media.
