Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has reportedly emerged a top transfer target for Arsenal during the January transfer window.

The 32-year-old will be out of contract with the Spanish League giants in the summer but the club wants to get him off their payroll quicker than expected.

He returned to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in 2018 but spent most of his time on the sidelines owing to series of injuries.

However, Los Colchoneros are ready to offload the striker six months before the expiration of his contract as he is currently the most paid player on their team.

And this has already started attracting attention from top clubs with the North Londoners already showing interest.

SunSport quoting Spanish outlet AS reports that Mikel Arteta could be monitoring Costa’s situation with keen interest as he looks to bring him back to London.

The Gunners are hoping the forward can help improve their goalscoring ability after enduring a very poor start to the season.

With Costa returning to the EPL, he will reunite with former Blues teammate Willian at the Emirates Stadium.

They both helped their former club to the English topflight glory at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old has been granted permission to miss training by Atletico so he can focus on finding a new club.

The Sun reveals that the attacker is wanted by South American clubs plus the Middle and the Far East, but he is allegedly determined to remain to play at the top level in Europe.
