Kieran Trippier will not be in action for at least next ten weeks after the England and Atletico Madrid ace received a hefty ban for breaching strict FA betting rules.

The development is a big blow to Diego Simeone as the defender will now miss their Champions League showdown against English club Chelsea.

His ban will lapse till the first week of March 2021, which means he will likely be available for the reverse fixture against the Blues, scheduled for March 17.

Consequently, he will miss his side’s 11 domestic fixtures and expected to be officially back during the Madrid derby.

An FA statement read, as cited in SunSport:

"Kieran Trippier has been suspended for ten weeks and fined £70,000, following misconduct in relation to breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules.
"An independent regulatory commission was appointed to hear the case, with four of the alleged breaches found proven and three dismissed during a subsequent personal hearing.
"The suspension, which includes all football and football-related activity, is effective worldwide from today (Wednesday 23 December 2020) following an application to FIFA."

Meanwhile, following Timo Werner’s goal drought in as much as nine consecutive matches for Chelsea, team manager Frank Lampard has stated that he is confident the German striker will return to his scoring form.

Lampard reiterated his commitment and support for Werner and believes the £53million striker is still 'scaring teams'.
