Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi, has finally lifted the lids on why he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking while featuring on Arise TV on Thursday, November 19, from Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital, Engineer Umahi described as "absolute rubbish" the claim that "PDP made me what I am."

The governor, who has since become the darling bride of the APC household after his defection, stated that he was convinced to join the APC train due to the "father" in President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor parted ways with the opposition block in what has left a huge vacuum in the PDP considering the fact that he was a leading light for the party.

Umahi, who is the chairman of the Southeast Governors' Forum (SGF), has since been attacked by top members of his former party including Nyesom Wike who said he defected to pursue a presidential ambition.

But clearing the air on his defection, the governor rubbished the claim that the PDP made him what he is, saying he has contributed immensely to the opposition party including raising the idea of bringing Godwin Obaseki into the fold during his turbulent moments at APC.

"It is the people that made a party. I have contributed to making PDP not the other way round. I have been a peacemaker and negotiator.

Meanwhile, the ruling party is reportedly planning a massive raid on the PDP in an attempt to lure some of its bigwigs in the southeast following Umahi's defection.

According to a credible source, the APC leadership under the caretaker chairmanship of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has directed the party's members from the southeast to reach out to more governors and National Assembly members in the region.

And top men being targetted are Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu and Willy Obiano of Anambra state.
