Newly appointed Barcelona gaffer Ronald Koeman has assured the club's fans that he will try his best to make sure that Lionel Messi end his career at the Nou Camp.

There have been serious speculation over the future of Lionel Messi at Barcelona since the end of the 2019/20 Spanish La Liga season in which the Argentine was unable to win any title.

Barcelona were also embarrassed out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich who beat the Catalans 8-2 in the quarterfinal encounter.

The defeat made Barcelona chiefs sack Setién and replaced him with Ronald Koeman who started his coaching career at the Camp Nou.

Koeman has however explained that he is preparing to build his team around Lionel Messi claiming that Argentine is an important player at Barcelona.

“Messi is a pure winner, I am very close with Pep Guardiola and I am still in contact with him now.

"Pep told me that Messi wants to win, he wants to win everything. And if he doesn’t win, he can get very annoyed. I am looking so much forward to work with him,'' Koeman told Dutch media outlet NOS.

“I have to make sure that Messi will be able to function well in this team, and that he feels important. He is the captain of this club,'' Koeman added.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Spanish side Barcelona are reportedly ready to sell some players this summer with Arturo Vidal, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez said to be on the list.

This comes after the Catalans failed to win any title in a season which was the very first time in 12 years at the Nou Camp.

Embarrassing defeat Barcelona suffered in the Champions League against Bayern Munich is still fresh in the hearts of the club's fans.

Last season in the Champions League, Barcelona were also sent out of the competition in an embarrassing fashion losing against Liverpool.

After their failure at the just-concluded League season, Barcelona chiefs decided to sack Quique Setién and he has been replaced with Ronald Koeman.
