- Dogara's defection has been condemned by leadership of the PDP in his constituency
- The PDP leadership said they were not consulted before he defected
- However, they promised to reveal the next line of action
Following the sudden defection of former House of Reps speaker, Yakubu Dogara from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) back to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), party leaders in his constituency of Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local government areas have faulted his latest move.
Nigerian Tribune reports that in a statement signed by the three PDP chairmen, Ladan Kafinta Dass, Abdullah Abdu of Tafawa Balewa and Emmanuel Zakka of Bogoro LGAs, Dogara made his move without consulting them.
They said they don't know the reason for his re-defection to APC.
However, they promised to consult with the zonal and state party levels for the next line of action to be taken.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Dogara disclosed why he defected from the PDP APC. The lawmaker in a letter of resignation addressed to the Bogoro ‘C’ ward chairman of the PDP dated July 24, 2020, said the breakdown of governance in his native state of Bauchi prompted his defection.
The former speaker noted that if he were to remain in the PDP, he would be accused of disloyalty for questioning governance under the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed whom he said he helped install as a governor in 2019.
Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, has said that Yakubu Dogara's return to the APC is out of fear of the ongoing probe of the NDDC and to cover up his misdeeds.
In a statement via Lawal Muazu Bauchi, his special assistant on new media, Mohammed said Dogara's reasons for returning to APC were not good, adding that it wasn't reasonable enough to convince any sincere heart.
