It is a war of words between Nyesom Wike and the Nigeria Governors' Forum as its leadership finally replied to a remark made by the Rivers state governor over embattled Governor Godwin Obaseki.

In what started as a political ploy, Obaseki had paid a visit to the Rivers governor amid ongoing speculation surrounding his impeding defection following his "unjust" elimination from All Progressive Congress (APC) ticket race.

Wike, in a subsequent outburst, attacked the NGF for not defending their colleague and for allegedly failing to condemn the APC's disqualification of the governor.

Describing the Obaseki saga as unfortunate, Wike likened the NGF leadership to "beggar forum and toothless bulldogs" which only lies low to the wish and command of the ruling party and the presidency.

But in a reaction to the criticism, NFG through a statement by his spokesperson, Abdulrazaque Bakindo, on Monday, June 15, described the governor's criticism as the one lacking an understanding of NGF and Progressive Governors' Forum (PGF).

Bakindo said as an old member of NGF who attended meetings regularly, Governor Wike could not have referred to the NGF as a beggars forum.

“The NGF is happy to state that Gov Wike is one of its strong members and has delegated his Deputy Gov to the Forum and he has never missed any meeting,” Bakindo said and warned against media misrepresentation.
