Robin van Persie picks Sir Alex Ferguson as best manager he played under

- Van Persie spent close to a decade in the Premier League with Man United and Arsenal

- During his stay, he had the rare privilege of working under Ferguson and Arsene Wenger

- The two managers are widely regarded as best to manage in the English Premier League

Premier League legend Robin van Persie has snubbed Arsene Wenger to pick Sir Alex Ferguson as the best manager he has ever worked with.

Van Persie had a rare chance to play under the two tacticians easily regarded as the best in Premier League history.

The Dutchman sealed a move to England with Arsenal aged just 20 in a £3million deal from Feyenoord back in 2004.

He enjoyed a blossoming career under Wenger for eight years, before he left to complete a sensational switch to Man United in 2012.

And despite spending just one season under Ferguson at Old Trafford, Van Persie has hailed the Scotsman as the best manager among those who coached him.

"Ferguson really was a super manager. It was so brilliant how he always kept the entire squad happy and focused," Van Persie wrote in the book ‘LVG – The Manager and the Total Person’.

However, the former striker singled out Wenger as a combination of both Fergie and Louis van Gaal, another manager he played for both at country and club level.

Meanwhile, his otherwise bright start to life at Old Trafford notwithstanding, the former Holland international endured a difficult spell at the Manchester club after the arrival of fellow countryman Van Gaal.

It was the 68-year-old who ruthlessly got rid of the Van Persie at United, forcing the footballer to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce before winding his career at boyhood club Feyenoord.
