COVID-19: NCDC announces 265 new cases, total now 7526

- Nigeria's coronavirus cases are now officially 7526 after confirmation of 265 new cases

- This was announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday, May 23

- Lagos continues to take the lead with 133 new cases in Nigeria's commercial capital

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday, May 23 reported that there are 242 new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria.

The NCDC via its official Twitter account revealed that the new cases are as follows:

133-Lagos

34-Oyo

28-Edo

23-Ogun

22-FCT

6-Plateau

5-Kaduna

3-Borno

3-Niger

2-Kwara

2-Bauchi

2-Anambra

2-Enugu

This means there are now 7526 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria. While 2174 have been discharged, 221 people have died due to the viral disease.

With the new figures, Nigeria is gradually inching closer to the 10,000 mark.

Meanwhile, the federal government has asked traders, transporters and other people who provide services to members of the public not to hike their prices due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was stated by the minister of information, culture and tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday, May 21.

The minister asked the National Union of Road Transport Workers to ensure that transportation fares were not hiked, adding that “this is a time people are giving back to society. We call on our compatriots not to take the opportunity to oppress the people.”

In a related development, members of the National Economic Council (NEC) rose from their first virtual meeting on Thursday, May 21 with a resolution to ensure a more effective synergy between the federal government and the state governments especially in matters related to the fallouts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
