Sanusi's dethronement: Kano residents flood residence of new emir

Following his appointment as the new emir of Kano, residents of the state have trooped to the palace of Ado Bayero to congratulate him on his new appointment.

The appointment follows the controversial dethronement of the outspoken former emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Legit.ng reports that huge crowd gathered around the house, chanting songs of praise to celebrate the appointment of the new emir.

Legit.ng also reports that the new emir went to Gidan Nasarawa, where his grandfather and his father were buried to pay homage.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on digital/new media, Tolu Ogunlesi, on Tuesday, March 10, reacted to the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.

The presidential aide in a tweet shared on his page @toluogunlesi noted that sitting governors could dethrone anybody as that is the way the system is made up and the state leaders have the power to do so.

He stated this in response to a Twitter user @Msmenalicious, who had asked what could happen in any other state after the Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje dethroned an emir in the state.

Legit.ng had also reported that the dethroned Emir of Kano broke his silence on his removal from office. This is coming after the former ruler was dethroned on Monday, March 9, following allegations of consistently refusing to abide by the state government's instructions.

The former monarch in a video that lasted over four minutes and was recorded in Hausa reacted to his dethronement by the Kano government. Sanusi reportedly recorded the message at the palace before he was whisked away into exile.

In a related development, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), a political and cultural group in the north, has reacted to the removal of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II by calling for calm among aggrieved camps in Kano state.
