After Sanusi's removal, Ganduje names Ado Bayero's son Emir of Kano

- The reign of Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano has been brought to an end by Governor Ganduje.

- Sanusi was dethroned on Monday, March 9, for refusing to attend government functions.

- Aminu Bayero, the son of late emir of Kano is now the new emir of the ancient town

Following the removal of Muhammad Sanusi II as the emir of Kano, the state government has announced Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the new emir for the ancient town.

The Nation reports that Bayero, the son of late Emir Ado Bayero, replaced Muhammad Sanusi 11, who was dethroned and banished to Nasarawa state.

Legit.ng gathered that four kingmakers of Kano elected a new emir, following the deposition of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II earlier on Monday, March 9.

The kingmakers are Madakin Kano Yusuf Nabahani; Makaman Kano Sarki Ibrahim; Sarkin Dawakin Maituta Bello Abubakar and; Sarkin Bai Mukhtar Adnan.

In the same development, Channels TV reports that the new emir's father died in 2014 and was succeeded by Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank (CBN) of Nigeria.

The secretary to the state government, Usman Alhaji, at a press briefing on Monday, March 9, announced the removal of Sanusi for alleged insubordination and disrespect for constituted authority.

He said the dethroned emir persistently refused to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the state government without any lawful justification.

He said the attitude amounted to “total insubordination.”

“It is on record that in so many instances, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll has been found breaching part 3 section 13(a-e) of the Kano state emirate law 201 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano emirate.

“The Kano state executive council under the chairmanship of His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has unanimously approved the immediate removal, dethronement of the emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll.

“This removal is made after due consultation with relevant stakeholders and in compliance with part 3 section 13 of the Kano state emirate law 2019 and other reasons stated above,” the official said.

In his statement, he said Governor Ganduje called for calm while a new Emir of Kano emirate was appointed.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that state government on Monday, March 9, finally dethroned Muhammad Sanusi II, who has been under much heat throughout the Emirate crisis rocking the state.

It was reported that Sanusi's dethronement came after the state's council executive meeting presided over by the governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Confirming the development, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, Kano's secretary to the state government, said that the monarch's sack takes effect from Monday.
