President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, March 3 in Abuja said stronger diplomatic ties with Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cuba will bolster Nigeria’s ongoing effort to diversify the economy, improve global competitiveness and reposition the country to play more leading roles.
President Buhari, who received Letters of Credence from the ambassadors of the countries, said Nigeria's long-standing diplomatic and business relations with both nations will be strengthened for mutual benefit.

He said Nigeria received support at international forums from Cuba for many years, assuring that the bilateral relations would be strengthened.
At the ceremony, President Buhari assured the Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea, Francisco Edu Ngua Mangue, that Nigeria is taking measures to secure the Gulf of Guinea, following his meeting with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
In his remarks, the ambassador said the insecurity at the Gulf of Guinea had persisted, and President Mbasogo had called for joint efforts to tackle the challenge.
As part of its complementary efforts to curb insurgency in Lake Chad Basin, civil society groups have called for more funding of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
Meanwhile, a group, WAANSA Nigeria, has lamented that Nigerian borders have turned to easy routes for illegal immigrants who milk the nation's economy and are threats to the country's national security, urging President Buhari to declare a state of emergency to address the issues.
The group took its campaign of combating the illegal proliferation of arms across the country to the United Nations (UN) last year and has been consistent in calling the attention of President Buhari and his West African counterparts on the dangers of the situation.
WAANSA president, Jephtah Asiomole, represented West Africa at a UN conference focused on the illegal proliferation of small arms and light weapons last year.
The conference reviewed the program of action and implementation of policies to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade and domestication of international treaties and to consolidate the tactics meant to eliminate the global surge of arms proliferation.
