Meet oldest living Oyo Baale who ascended throne at age of 123 (photos)

- Chief Ashiru Ajibola is regarded as the oldest Baale in Oyo state

- The new Baale in Iseyin area of the state was crowned on February 14, at the age of 123

- Ajibola said he was born in 1897 to the family of Ajibolas who was the former head of the community

A 123- year-old, Ashiru Aremu Ajibola, has been installed as the Baale of Ajibola community, Iseyin in Iseyin local government area of Oyo state.

Legit.ng's regional reporter in Oyo state, Imran Khalid, reports that Chief Ajibola is described as the oldest Baale in the whole state.

The Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Abdulganiy Salau, Oloogunebi Ajinese 1, installed Chief Ashiru Aremu Ajibola on Friday, February 14, as Baale of the community.

According to the report, the monarch who was represented by his chiefs led by Basorun of Iseyin, Chief Raheem Oyegbemi Adelodun decorated Ajibola and affirmed that his choice by Aseyin-in-council was consequent upon his long time contributions, relentless efforts and passion for the development of Ajibola community and Iseyin at large.

He admonished the newly installed Baale to continue to demonstrate developmental moves aimed at expanding the community and alluring needed facilities for the benefit of people in the area.

Basorun advised Ajibola to see his choice as Baale as a call to serve his people better while added that harmonious relationship must be fostered with leaders and people in the neighbouring communities.

In an interactive session, Chief Ajibola said he was thankful to God for the gift of life that allowed him to witness his installation as Baale Ajibola community of Iseyin despite his old age at 123 years now.

While going in a memory lane, Ajibola said he was born in 1897 to the family of Ajibolas who was former heads of the community.

He narrated that his father was the head of Ajibola community in 1957 when he left for trading at Ibadan, adding that he remained the eldest in the whole of the community.

He stressed that till now that history was made, his family remained the rightful owner of the chieftaincy.

Ajibola enjoined all the descendants of the Ajibola family to be of good character so that they can inherit the legacy of being the community leaders.

He pledged that his reign shall promote peace and unity, not only in the community but in Iseyin as a whole.
