- Maryam Sanda has been sentenced to death
- The judge dismissed Sanda’s claim that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during a fight
- However, immediately the judgement was delivered, she attempted to run out of the courtroom
Maryam Sanda has been found guilty of killing her husband Bilyaminu Bello.
As a result of this, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Monday, January 27, sentenced her to death by hanging.
Recall that the police charged Sanda for the offence in November 2017.
While delivering the judgement, Justice Yusuf Halilu said there was compelling evidence to convict the accused.
The judge, therefore, dismissed Sanda’s claim that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during the fight that led to his death.
According to the judge, this is a “smokescreen to deceive the court”.
He said Sanda intentionally stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife with intent to ”kill”.
Immediately the judgement was delivered, Sanda attempted to run out of the courtroom.
Meanwhile, recall that Legit.ng had reported that the police had told the court that Sanda had stabbed her husband with a broken bottle with the intention of killing him.
However, the accused denied the claim and pleaded not guilty to the crime. She said her husband died after he accidentally fell on a broken bottle in their home.
She was eventually granted bail after many attempts. As part of her bail condition, the court-mandated her father to produce her in court till the end of the trial.
In another news report, gunmen on Saturday, January 26, attacked vehicles conveying travellers shortly after arriving Rigasa railway station from Abuja, injured some of them and abducted several others. News Agency report (NAN) gathered that the attack occurred along the road linking airport road from the railway station at about 8pm.
