Aregbesola orders probe as 5 Ikoyi prison inmates are electrocuted

The minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has ordered an immediate investigation into the death of five inmates of the Ikoyi prison after they were electrocuted.

The incident happened on Monday, December 2, information available to Legit.ng showed.

In a statement signed by Jane Osuji, the press secretary to the Aregbesola, who was also a former governor of Osun, ordered an urgent investigation into the incident.

The ministry also promised to release a comprehensive report on the incident.

"The minister has directed a quick investigation into the root cause and the ministry will in the next few hours share a comprehensive update on the incidence," Osuji said.

"While we commiserate with the victims of the incidence, the minister has ordered immediate medical attention for those affected," the statement added.

Premium Times reports that Aroke is now being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

It was reported that Aroke allegedly pulled the heist right from prison using a network of accomplices, who are targets of fraud and money laundering investigation.
