The Borno state government has reportedly embarked on the recruitment of hunters believed to possess spiritual powers to fight against Boko Haram terrorists.

Daily Trust reports that the state made this decision ‘as a response to the unconventional methods of the insurgents.”

A source close to the government claimed the move had received the endorsement of the state government as it is willing to provide the hunters with guns and swords. The hunters are expected to be under the control of the counter-insurgency unit in the northeast.

It was reported that the hunters were made to swear an oath of allegiance using the Quran before they would be deployed to northern Borno where the insurgency is strong.
