- The election tribunal in Kano fixed Wednesday, October 2, for judgement

- The PDP had challenged the victory of Abdullahi Ganduje in the election

- The party said its candidate Abba Yusuf should have been declared winner of the state election

The governorship election petition tribunal in Kano state has released a statement, announcing Wednesday, October 2, as date for its judgement.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Abba Yusuf, challenged the victory of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in the state governorship election.

Daily Nigerian reports that the secretary of the tribunal in a text message informed the parties involved of the new development.

Legit.ng had reported that the judgement in a petition filed by Yusuf, against Governor Ganduje, was reserved by the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in the state.

The chairman of the tribunal, Justice Halima Shamaki, after listening to the parties in the matter on Wednesday, September 18, said that the judgment date would be communicated to them.

Shamaki thanked the parties for their cooperation and support to the tribunal for doing justice to all matters before it.

The counsel to the INEC, Ahmad Raji (SAN), while adopting his final written addresses, prayed the tribunal to dismiss the petition for lacking in merit.

Raji said that INEC was straight forward in discharging their duty on the objection to the exhibit tendered to the tribunal, the only latitude on the petitioner was to tender certified true copy to the tribunal.

Adopting his final written addresses, the counsel to Ganduje, Offiong Offiong (SAN), also prayed the tribunal to dismiss the petition. He said that the exhibits of results tendered by the petitioners ‘pink copy’ are invalid, lacks merit and that the tribunal should dismiss the matter.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the PDP on Wednesday, September 18, lost the petition it filed against Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger state over alleged certificate forgery.
