FG to commission largest solar power plant in Africa, Tuesday, September 3
- Power minister, Engr Saleh Mamman, will accompany VP Osinbajo to commission the largest off-grid solar hybrid power plant in Africa at BUK on Tuesday, September 3
- The minister said the plant was constructed under the Energizing Education Programme
- Mamman said the project shall provide the energy needs of Bayero University, which will now be free from the national grid
The minister of power, Engr Saleh Mamman, will on Tuesday, September 3 accompany Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to commission the largest off-grid solar hybrid power plant in Africa at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
In a series of tweets posted on his Twitter handle, @EngrSMamman, the minister said the plant was constructed under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP).
Legit.ng notes that the minister pointed out that the EEP is an intervention programme by the Nigerian federal government which focuses on developing off-grid dedicated independent power plants in a select few federal universities.
He said the project shall provide the energy needs of Bayero University, which will now be free from the national grid.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the governor of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha, inaugurated the installation of over 100 solar street lights at Ezeagbogu community in Ezinihitte Mbaise local government of Imo state.
The governor extolled the Japanese ambassador to Nigeria, His Exellency Yataka Kikuta, for partnering with Development Dynamics, a Non-Governmental Organisation, to ensure that the project was completed for the use of the people.
The governor urged the youths of the area and by extension, Imo state, to borrow a leaf from the program director of Development Dynamics, Jude Ohanele, who attracted the project to benefit his community.
