Soldier who defiled female university student in Ondo sent to jail

- A court in Ondo state asks Sunday Awolola, a dismissed soldier, to be remanded in prison custody

A dismissed personnel of the Nigerian Army, Sunday Awolola, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly defiling a 300-level female student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo state.

Awolola was remanded at the Olokuta medium security prison.

Television Continental reports that the chief magistrate of the court, Mayowa Olanipekun, said the case should be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Legit.ng earlier reported how Awolola was recently arraigned over the alleged act.

Awolola, 33, was arraigned on Wednesday, August 14, at the magistrate court sitting in Akure, capital of Ondo state.

The act is contrary to section 357 and punishable under section 358 of the criminal code cap 37 vol laws of the state.

It was also reported how Awolola was dismissed by the Nigerian Army before he was arraigned.

The lance corporal was dismissed after an in-house military trial by the Army authorities at the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment in Akure, Ondo state.

He was immediately handed over to the police for further questioning and arraignment in court.

The state police public relations officer, Femi Joseph, on Sunday, August 12, confirmed to the press that the soldier had been dismissed and was in the custody of the law enforcement agency.
