The executive secretary of Anti-Corruption and Research Based Data Initiative (ARDI), Dennis Aghanya, has spoken many weeks after his petition caused the resignation of Walter Onnoghen, former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Asked how he had been able to handle the backlash, Aghanya said he had continued to be haunted by his action adding that he already knew what he would face before he released the petition.

"That is why I said it was an enormous task and the consequences of my action are still haunting me," he said.

Speaking exclusively with Daily Sun, the rights activist also said he was fulfilled that his petition caused a positive change in Nigeria, not because it led to the downfall of Onnoghen.

“I don’t feel fulfilled because I brought somebody down, but I feel fulfilled that I was able to render service to my country.

“I am sure that my contributions in helping to sanitise the judiciary will go a very long way to reposition that arm of government,” he said.

The activist maintained that the judiciary is a very vital arm of government and is more important than the executive and the legislature since it is considered the final arbiter.

He stressed that every effort must be made to strengthen that arm of government just like what he did.
