Fasoranti’s daughter: We’ll no longer allow our people be killed like chickens - Gani Adams

- Gani Adams has stated that the Yoruba nation will no longer allow its people to be killed like chickens, even though it won’t go to war over the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery, herdsmen invasion and banditry

- The Aare Ona Kakanfo, however, insisted that the time has come to end the rampaging activities of those disturbing the peace of Yorubaland

- Adams pointed out that current happenings are being coordinated beyond the scene of Yoruba land, and the south-west has to be careful about how it reacts

The Yoruba nation will no longer allow its people to be killed like chickens, even though it won’t go to war over the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery, herdsmen invasion and banditry in the south-west region, Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, has stated.

Adams said this on Thursday, July 18 during a condolence visit to the leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, over the murder of his daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunrin, Tribune reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the Aare Ona Kakanfo urged Yoruba leaders to avoid getting frustrated to the point of becoming rebels as a result of the activities of marauders in the region.

He, however, stated that the time has come to end the rampaging activities of those disturbing the peace of Yorubaland.

He said: “It is very important that we have to react to this issue, but we will not overreact.

“We are being cautious so that we won’t be setup. And the law is there that we have to operate within the ambit of the law. That is one of the reasons we are being careful.

“But I can tell you authoritatively that we are meeting as a group and as stakeholders to map out strategies to complement the efforts of the law enforcement agencies.”

He added: “My own Aare Ona Kakanfo is a modern one. It is not that of the olden days where the Alaafin and some Yoruba Oba’s with the Oyo Meesi will declare war and you can go to war. We have the structure of security on the ground, the entire security apparatus.

“We can no longer allow our people to be killed like chickens. We can’t keep quiet while Yorubas are being killed like fowls.

“But we have to be careful not to fall into their trap. We have to be careful. It is good you see me in circulation to walk with you. We don’t want a situation we will walk into their trap because we realise that this ugly incident is being coordinated beyond our own scene. There are some forces behind them.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Gani Adams said the Yoruba ethnic group should not be blamed if it decides to react to the killings in the region.

Aare Adams issued the stern statement in a reaction to the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin.

According to a statement by Kehinde Aderemi, Adam’s media aide, the Aare Ona Kakanfo said the Yoruba race was not short of ideas needed to put an end to the atrocities in the region.

He described the death of Olakunrin as an invasion of the peaceful atmosphere of the south-west region. 7
