APC, Oshiomhole support governor Bello on indirect primaries

- The APC has adopted indirect primary to pick its candidate for the governorship election in Kogi state

- The decision was taken at the national working committee meeting which held on Friday, July 5, at the national secretariat of the party

- The INEC earlier had fixed November 2 for the governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa states

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared its support for Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi on indirect primaries for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

A statement signed by the party national publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu, stated that a formal request from the state executive and stakeholders in preference for the indirect primary was considered and deliberated on.

Lanre Issa-Onilu recalled that “the APC Constitution which was reemphasized by a decision of NEC provides for three mode of primary election to elect party candidates indirect, direct primaries and consensus depending on the peculiarities of the state and preferences of the stakeholders in respective elections.”

Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, on Thursday, June 27, promised that he would improve upon his present performance if given another term to serve the state.

Bello, who is facing some rejection among groups within the APC, made the promise in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state during a stakeholders meeting of the party.

The governor appealed to the people of the state not to lose hope in his administration as according to him, the recent reconciliation of the two factions of the party is also a pointer to better times.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported he INEC announced that the Bayelsa and Kogi state governorship elections will now hold November 16.

The commission had earlier scheduled the process for November 2. The INEC director of voter education and publicity, Festus Okoye, said in a statement that the change in date was as a result of various appeals for the commission to reschedule the polls.
