- An aspirant to the senate president seat in the 9th National Assembly has resorted to lobbying newly-elected senators of the opposition PDP to make his dream a reality
- The senators-elect are being offered constituency projects as high N200m to vote for the aspirant
- No senators-elect of the ruling APC which the aspirants come from has reportedly been approached with the mouth-watering offer
A ranking senator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who is seeking to emerge as president of the 9th Senate has started lobbying newly-elected colleagues on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Thisday reports that the PDP senators-elect are being offered N100 million worth constituency projects to be sited their respective constituencies by the aspirant if they vote for him.
According to the report, the deal was revealed on Saturday, May 4 by those close to the PDP senators-elect.
The report quoted one of the newly elected lawmakers as confirming to a ranking senator that he had been asked to submit a N200million worth constituency project despite not being sworn in yet.
The aspirant however appears to only be interested in opposition senators-elect as none of the new lawmakers of the ruling APC have reportedly been approached.
"I am aware that some of my colleagues have been accorded this gesture but so far none of us in the APC has been approached," an APC senator-elect volunteered, noting the reason might be because APC lawmakers are sticking with the party's choice of Senate leader Ahmed Lawan.
“We are going to give our leader block votes because he is the choice of the Party. We are toing the party line this time around,"he said.
Legit.ng reports that serious lobbying has been going in both houses of legislature as lawmakers move to emerge as heads of the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the APC's anointed candidate for the Speakership of the 9th House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajiabiamila, on Thursday, May 2 stepped up his campaign for the office.
Gbajabiamila gathered members-elect from across the political divides in Abuja to sell his manifestoes to them and unveil his game plan for the forthcoming election for the principal officers of the National Assembly slated for next month.
