EFCC partners security agencies to prevent vote-buying, corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has partnered security agencies in its quest to prevent the menace of vote buying in the governorship and state House of Assembly elections coming up on Saturday, March 3.
Legit.ng gathered that the the Ibadan zonal office of the commission made this known on Tuesday, March 5.
The Ibadan zonal head of the commission, Friday Ebelo, said this was the outcome of the courtesy visit made to the agencies in Ibadan on Tuesday, March 5.

It was gathered that Ebelo was at the Ibadan offices of Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Nigeria Immigration Service to deliver the message of the acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on the need to prevent vote-buying in order to ensure free, fair and credible elections in the country.
While receiving Ebelo, the sector commander of Oyo FRSC, Cecilia Alao, NSCDC's Oyo state, Dr. John Adewoye, and the comptroller of immigration in zone, Saleh Azare Abdullahi, applauded the EFCC's effort and called on other sister agencies to join hands with the commission in its fight against economic and financial crimes.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it has discovered new vote-buying methods to be used by some politicians in the forthcoming general elections.
The disclosure was made by the INEC national commissioner, Festus Okoye, at an interactive session with traditional rulers in Osun state on Monday, January 14.
It was gathered that Okoye, who was represented by the resident electoral commissioner for Osun state, Segun Agbaje, however, warned that any politician(s) caught buying votes or engaging in acts that could have negative effects on the elections would be punished.

He said information had reached INEC, that voters were being induced by certain people to release their PVCs or Voter Identification Numbers.
