President Muhammadu Buhari says he is not bothered by the mass defections currently being witnessed in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Legit.ng gathers that in a statement released by his special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, the president was quoted as saying that most Nigerians appreciate the performance of his administration; which is why he is not bothered by the defections.

He stated: “I am not bothered about the defections. Ordinary Nigerians have developed confidence in us and are defending us. I assure you, majority of Nigerians back home are appreciative of our efforts.”

Buhari was delighted to see Nigerians who traveled from Togo’s five regions to welcome him in Lome. He expressed pleasure that they had commended his government; and assured them of his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises.

The president pointed out that Nigerians could not still see a change in the power sector despite the fact that $16bn was spent on electricity. According to him, citizens would have no reason to complain if past governments had utilised even 25 percent of the huge oil revenue available to them.

He restated the commitment of his administration to cut rice importation by more than 90 percent by providing loans to farmers, and also provide critical infrastructure.

Buhari further added that all recovered illegally acquired assets would now be sold and the money paid into the treasury in the administration’s renewed anti-graft campaign.

He said: “I assure you that we are making progress in security as some displaced farmers are returning to their farms. We will continue to work very hard for our dear country.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that House of Representatives members and a Kaduna senator who defected from the All Progressives Congress to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, July 24, vowed never to return to the ruling party.

The federal lawmakers laughed off APC leadership’s claims that they will make a U-turn and return into its fold. They said they had fully weighed their actions and that there was no going back.
