Suspected bandits kill 4 travellers, kidnap others along Kaduna-Abuja highway

Armed bandits have reportedly killed four travellers while others were said to have been abducted on Sunday, July 22, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

The Kaduna state commissioner of police, Austin Iwar, told Channels TV that the force is on the trail of the bandits.

The attack by the armed bandits was said to have occurred around 6pm near Gidan Busa village, located between Jere and Kateri communities, along the expressway.

An eyewitness said the bandits mounted a road block on the highway and started shooting when motorists returning from Kaduna to Abuja in different vehicles approached the road block.

Kidnapping long the highways in northern Nigeria has become a source of concern to security officials.

Legit.ng had reported a similar attack along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway in which 87 passengers were said to have been kidnapped by armed bandits operating in the area.

The bandits were said to have selected their victims from their looks and dressing before reportedly leading them into the bush.

The kidnappings were confirmed by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the area, which cautioned its members from plying the route pending deployment of troop and other security agencies.
