Just in: Robbers allegedly kill 4 policemen in Edo state, set them ablaze

Some alleged armed robbers have reportedly killed four policemen attached to the Sabogidda-Ora division of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and their corpse set ablaze by their attackers.

The Nation reports that the incident occurred at about 8:30pm on Saturday, July 14, at the Oke New-Avbiosi road junction along Uzebba-Ifon expressway in Owan West local government area.

The report said the residents of the area watched helplessly as the corpses of the policemen continued to burn.

It was learnt that the corpses burnt beyond recognition inside the police van they were in and the charred remains were later taken to the mortuary.

The commissioner of police in Edo state, Babatunde Kokumo, is reported to have said he would speak on the incident later on Sunday, July 15.

Legit.ng earlier reported how seven policemen were killed and many civilians injured when unknown gunmen opened fire on them in Abuja on Monday night, July 2.

The policemen were said be on a stop-and-search duty operation at Galadimawa roundabout, a suburb in Abuja.

A resident of the community who confirmed the incident but spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the gunmen were stopped for search when they opened fire on the unsuspecting policemen which led to the death of seven while one was seriously injured.

The gun battle led to many pedestrians and traders around the roundabout running for safety while many sustained various degrees of injuries.

Legit.ng also reported that in view of the killing of the seven police officers on their duty location, the authorities of the law enforcement agency beefed up security around the Abuja metropolis and suburbs.

A security advisory circulated round the city on Tuesday, July 3, urged residents to avoid night movements or late evening activities for now.
