June 12: This is good news - Fani-Kayode commends Buhari

A former minister of aviation and one of President Muhammadu Buhari's major critics has commended the president on the declaration of June 12 as Nigerians new Democracy Day.
Femi Fani-Kayode on Wednesday, June 6, said the declaration of June 12 as Nigeria's new democracy day is good news.
In a tweet on his personal Twitter page, the former minister also commended President Buhari on the posthumous award granted the 1993 president-elect, Moshood Abiola.

The former minister said: "I commend @MBuhari for announcing June 12th as our new Democracy Day. This is long overdue and I am pleasantly surprised. I also commend him for honoring Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12th 1993 presidential election, with the posthumous award of GCON. This is great news!"
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the president on Thursday, June 6, announced the Nigeria's democracy day -formerly May 29 - will be replaced with June 12 to mark the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.

President Buhari also announced that late Abiola who was adjudged the winner of the cancelled June 12, 1993 election will be posthumously awarded the highest Honour in the land, GCFR.
While many positive reactions and commendation have trailed the president's recent announcement, a former chief justice of Nigeria, Alfa Balgore has described the award given to Abiola as illegal.

Shortly after the president's announcement, Balgore said the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) cannot be awarded posthumously.
He also said that he (Balgore) was not consulted by the president before the decision was taken.
