Breaking: Festus Keyamo appointed as spokesperson for 2019 Buhari campaign

Festus Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has been appointed by the President Muhammadu Buhari campaign organisation as its spokesperson ahead of the 2019 general election as confirmed by a letter signed by Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi, the transport minister and former governor of Rivers state, is the director-general of the organisation, which targets Buhari’s success at the polls in 2019.

“I am pleased to convey to you the decision of the President Muhammadu Buhari campaign organisation to appoint you as director, strategic communications in respect of the forthcoming campains for the 2019 presidential elections.

“As you are aware, President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking the nomination of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) as candidate for the said election.

“Your appointment is to aid in getting that nomination and to ensure the success of the subsequent campaigns for the 2019 presidential election,” the appointment letter obtained by Legit.ng stated.

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari announced that he would seek reelection in the 2019 presidential election.

The development was made public by the president's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmed.

Ahmad took to his Twitter handle, @BashirAhmaad, to announce the development on Monday, April 9. He further disclosed that the president made the announcement during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, the national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, said re-electing the president is in the interest of the nation.

Speaking during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, April 9, he said the president’s declaration did not come as a surprise as many party leaders and members across the country have been appealing to him to make his intention known.

He noted that the delay by the president to make his intention known was already creating anxiety among members as the general elections draw nearer.
