NDLEA arrests man taking firearms to Benue

- One Salisu Mahmuda was arrested by NDLEA operatives in Jigawa

- He was reportedly transporting firearms to Benue state

- The suspect said he was going to supply one Tiv and one Fulani who ordered for the firearms

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested one Salisu Mahmuda in Jigawa transporting firearms heading to Benue state.

Premium Times reports that Oko Micheal who is the deputy commander of the NDLEA confirmed this on Tuesday, February 6.

He said they were on normal operation around Jahun – Gujungu Road where the suspect was arrested.

He said: “The suspect, identified as Salisu Mahmuda was arrested on Sunday 4, February, 2018 with some three locally fabricated firearms (2 locally made revolver pistol, one cut to size revolver rifle) with five-rounds of live ammunition.”

The suspect in his confession said he is an indigene of Kaduna state and that he is involved in the collection of discarded metals between Nasarawa and Benue state.

He claimed one Tiv and Fulani ordered for the firearms and he found someone in Labara village in Kano to manufacture them.

He said: “I am able to come down here through a friend of mine whom we schooled together in Nasarawa. He is the one that led me to the man that manufactured the firearms in Laraba village.”

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom raised allegation against the inspector-general of police accusing him of playing politics with the herdsmen-farmers crisis.

Vanguard reports that the governor spoke on Tuesday, February 6, instructing the people to defend themselves using any legal means.

The governor claimed their was threat to his life and accused the police chief of not doing enough to arrest those perpetuating violence.
