Ali Modu-Sheriff absent as Supreme Court rules in favour of Makarfi-led PDP

- The Supreme Court in Abuja has ruled on the matter between Ali Modu-Sheriff, four others and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

- The court sacked Sheriff as the national chairman of PDP and declared Ahmed Makarfi the authentic leader of the party

- However Sheriff was absent in court during the judgement given by the Supreme Court

The factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Ali Modu-Sheriff was no where to be found at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, July 12, during the ruling of the case between him, four others and the party.

While other notable PDP members where seen at the court Sheriff and most of his followers were absent.

Some of the PDP leaders seen at the court include, former spokesperson of the party Olisa Metuh, Uche Secondus, Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike, his Ekiti state colleague Ayodele Fayose, former deputy speaker of House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha.

Others include: Jerry Gana, Obi Nwabueze, former Labour Party chairman, a former minister of women affairs, Zainab Maina.

The crisis within the party started after some governors of the PDP sacked Modu-Sheriff as its national chairman after its botched convention in Port Harcorut on May 21, 2016.

The party declared former governor of Kaduna state Ahmed Makarfi chairman of its caretaker committee.

However, not satisfied by the party's decision, Sheriff filed a motion of injunction against the Makarfi's faction of the party.

Subsequently, two lower court in Port Harcourt and Abuja respectively ruled in favour of both Sheriff and Makarfi deepening the crisis within the party.

But today, July 12, in what seems to be a resolve of the party's crisis, the Supreme Court sacked Sheriff as the national chairman of the PDP while declaring Makarfi the authentic leader of the party.
