- Senator Dino Melaye has revealed why he is fighting the Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello
- Melaye said Bello is behind the agitation for his recall as the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District
- He said Governor Bello is owing state workers salaries and pensions for the past 15 months
The senator representing Kogi West Central Dino Melaye on Thursday, June 22, said he is being attacked for asking for good governance in Kogi state.
Melaye said the recent agitation for his recall as a senator at the National Assembly is engineered by the Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Melaye said his grouse with the governor escalated over Bello penchant for withholding workers' salaries despite various federal government interventions in the state.

He also said his interest is in the needs and welfare of the people of Kogi, its pensioners and workers who are yet to be paid their salaries for the past 15 months.
Melaye added that since Bello assumed power, all the tertiary institutions in the state including Kogi state Polytechnic, Kogi College of Education and its university have been locked for five months due to lecturers strike action.
He said the doctors in Kogi have also been on strike due to the state government's neglect of health workers in Kogi.
The Senator also accused Bello of embezzling state funds through his caretaker committees, a reason he said, the governor has refused to conduct local government elections in the state.

“Yahaya Bello collected N20bn from the Federal Government as bailout fund. Still, he refused to settle workers.
“He also collected N11bn from the Paris Club fund. Still, he refused to pay workers and pensioners.”
“All I am asking for is good governance.
“Children can no longer go to school. Tenants can no longer pay their house rent. Enough is enough! The people of Kogi State are tired of this government.
“The advent of Yahaya Bello as governor and Taofiq Isah as local government administrator in the political history of Kogi State has brought this unfortunate socio-political paradigm shift," Melaye said.
