Biafra agitators staged a protest outside the Federal High court in Abuja on Thursday, January 12 calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu ahead of his court appearance.

Kanu who is scheduled to appear in court on charges of treason was arrested in 2015 by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Meanwhile, A lawyer to Kanu has debunked claims that IPOB group is not an unlawful one.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor who spoke to journalists after Kanu’s court session on Tuesday, January 10, said claims by the federal government that the group is unlawful is baseless.

Ejiofor said: "IPOB is not an unlawful society, the goods imported duly came into the border and they are not contraband items listed under the gazette.”

“If you look at the statements made by witnesses it has nothing to do with any offence of treasonable felony."

“They are talking about how they arrested him and nothing more.

“So it had nothing to do with offences of treasonable felony which he is being charged for, and we of the view and firm view that, legally, those statements of the witnesses have nothing to do with the charges."
