US President Trump Revokes 6,000 Student Visas, Reason Emerge

Washington DC, United States - President Donald Trump-led United States government has revoked more than 6,000 student visas in 2025 for overstays, law violations and support for terrorism.

The roughly 6,000 visas were revoked primarily due to visa overstays or encounters with the law.

As reported by Fox News, the State Department official in a statement said the offence includes assault, DUIs, burglary and support for terrorism

"Every single student visa revoked under the Trump Administration has happened because the individual has either broken the law or expressed support for terrorism while in the United States."

The senior State Department official added that:

"About 4,000 visas alone have been revoked because these visitors broke the law while visiting our country, including records of assault and DUIs."

According to the State Department official, the 800 students who had their student visas yanked due to assault, either faced arrest or charges stemming from assault.

According to the official, the U.S. State Department has designated Hamas as a terrorist organization.

The 40,000 visas that have been pulled in 2025, is higher in comparison to the 16,000 that were revoked during the same time frame under the Biden administration.

The State Department official said:

"Even if the previous administration was doing less, they were still revoking visas. It's not something that just started on January 20 … So this has happened for years."

US issues warning to Nigerian students in America

Recall that the United States Mission in Nigeria warned students against dropping out or skipping classes without notice, citing visa revocation risks.

Non-compliance with academic terms could lead to loss of current and future U.S. visa privileges.

Nigerian students are urged to maintain active enrollment and inform schools of any changes in academic status.

US announces new Visa fees for students

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Nigerians looking to travel to the United States will have to pay more to obtain their visa applications.

The US Department of State has updated visa application fees across multiple visa classifications.

A breakdown of all the new visa fees has been published, and they are payable at the point of application submission.
