Folarin Falana, professionally known as Falz, was born on October 27, 1990, in Mushin, Lagos State, Nigeria. He hails from a family of prominent human rights lawyers—his father, Femi Falana (SAN), and mother, Funmi Falana (SAN).
Falz completed his primary and secondary education at St. Leo's Catholic Primary School in Ikeja and Olashore International School in Osun State.
He earned an LLB degree in Law from the University of Reading, England, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012.
Music Career and Activism
Falz began his music career in secondary school, forming a group called "The School Boys."
He gained prominence in 2011 with his debut single "Waz Up Guy" and released his first album, Wazup Guy, in 2014.
His subsequent albums include Stories That Touch (2015), 27 (2017), Moral Instruction (2019), BAHD (2022), and the EP Before The Feast (2024).
His 2018 single "This Is Nigeria," a cover of Childish Gambino's "This Is America," addressed societal issues like police brutality and corruption.
Falz is known for infusing his music with social commentary, drawing inspiration from Fela Kuti.
Acting and Recent Projects
In addition to his music career, Falz has ventured into acting. He starred in the TV series Jenifa's Diary and films like Quam's Money (2020) and Everybody Loves Jenifa (2024).
