Paris Saint-Germain players and staff may not attend the Ballon d'Or ceremony at the Théâtre du Châtelet on Monday night in Paris.

The 69th edition of the biggest event to crown the best players in football will be held at the usual venue in Paris as fans eagerly wait to know the winners.

PSG, which won the quadruple last season, including their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy, have eight players nominated, excluding Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has moved to England.

The French Ligue 1 champions are hopeful that one of their players will win, most likely Ousmane Dembele. Luis Enrique was nominated for Coach of the Year, and PSG for Club of the Year.

PSG players could miss Ballon d'Or ceremony

Paris Saint-Germain players may not be in attendance at the event at the Theatre du Chatelet on Monday night, despite being based in Paris.

According to ESPN, this is because their La Classique match with Olympique Marseille, which was postponed today, was rescheduled for tomorrow.

As noted by Goal, according to LFP rules, any match postponed in the Ligue 1 must be played on the second day, thus clashing with the Ballon d'Or ceremony.

"The match has been postponed because there may be significant reservoirs with significant risks of urban runoff,” the reason for the postponement reads.

Ousmane Dembele, who is a favourite for the main award and Desire Doue, a nominee for the Golden Boy award, will be in attendance as they are currently injured and not in the matchday squad.

Both players got injured on international duty with France, and it could be a blessing in disguise as they are the only two whose availability is certain.

“The match between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain, initially scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2025, has been postponed to a later date,” the statement reads.

Reports circulating on social media about the result of the event getting leaked suggest Barcelona star Raphinha has won the award ahead of Dembele and Lamine Yamal.

However, such reports have emanated in the past, but they turned out to be false as France Football maintains secrecy around the award.

Why Dembele could lose to Yamal

Legit.ng previously reported that a PSG legend explained why Lamine Yamal could win the Ballon d'Or ahead of Dembele despite being the favourite.

Pedro Miguel Pauleta believes that having nine strong nominees, the same issue that plagued Spanish players in 2010, could be detrimental to PSG in the 2025 race.
