The Super Eagles of Nigeria face a must-win match to keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive when they face South Africa on September 9 in Bloemfontein.
Nigeria defeated Rwanda 1-0 thanks to Tolu Arokodare’s 51st-minute strike, moving above the East Africans to third place in Group C.

According to The NFF, Nigeria have no other injury concerns aside from Victor Osimhen, who limped off injured in the first half of the win over Rwanda.

The striker has returned to Turkey to report to his club, Galatasaray, where he will undergo further assessment to determine the extent of his injury.
Eric Chelle has not given much away about his replacement, as Cyriel Dessers and Arokodare are options to step up in place of the former Napoli striker.
The Franco-Malian manager is not expected to make too many changes to the squad that faced Rwanda in Uyo, with only Frank Onyeka the likely player to drop to the bench.
Captain William Troost-Ekong is expected to continue on the bench, while youngster Benjamin Fredrick continues alongside Calvin Bassey in the heart of defence.
Chelle confirmed that his players have moved on from the win over Rwanda and will try to put the best team out to get the win in today's encounter.
“We have come here to play for the three points, so we will be sending out the team that will get the job done. We are happy to have overcome Rwanda, but we have to conquer here tomorrow in order to be in a good position for the qualification,” Chelle said during his post-match conference.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match between South Africa and Nigeria is scheduled to be held at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein at 5 pm Nigerian time.
The match will be shown live on DStv for Sub-Saharan African audiences, while it is also available for streaming on the DStv app. According to Vanguard, Nigerians can also watch it on Sporty TV.
International audiences can stream the match on the FIFA+ app, while those in the United States can also watch on ESPN+.

Legit.ng reported that Eric Chelle spoke about Victor Osimhen's absence due to injury ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against South Africa.
Chelle acknowledged Osimhen as a top player, but the team will not dwell on his absence, but will go out there and fight for the three points.
