Nigerian international Chrisantus Uche has been embroiled in a controversial farewell message after joining English Premier League side Crystal Palace.

The striker completed the transfer just before the close of the summer transfer window as he agreed a season-long loan deal worth 20 million euros.

It was gathered that agent Jorge Mendes had lured him to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal reported to be around 16 million euros fixed and 4 million euros in variables.

Uche was impressive during his time with Getafe, joining the Spanish club in 2024 as a central defender. He later switched to defensive midfield and eventually became a striker after a series of performances up front.

As he joined Crystal Palace, the 22-year-old took to his official Instagram to pen a farewell message, which has sparked conversations on social media.

He wrote:

"When I first arrived at Getafe , I came full of ambition, dreams, and the desire to make a real impact. I know I didn’t come close to meeting the expectations.
"But football and life are about more than just numbers or moments on the pitch. During my time here, l’ve grown, l’ve learned, and above all, I’ve discovered the true meaning of family. That’s what. getafe gave me. From day one, the people inside this club made sure I never lacked support. They created the conditions for me to succeed, to feel safe, to feel at home and for that, I’ll always be thankful.

"To all the coaches who guided me, the teammates who stood beside me, and every member of staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes: thank you. Your kindness, your professionalism, and your belief in me will never be forgotten.
"I’ve built friendships here that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
"Life has taught me never to give up, to fight twice as hard when things don’t go as planned. I always tried to stay true to that, to keep chasing my happiness and well-being, even when the road got tough. I leave with a bittersweet feeling, but also with pride, knowing that I gave my all and never stopped trying.
"Now it’s time for a new chapter, but I won’t forget where l’ve been. I’ll always be another supporter of this club.
"Thank you @getafe. From the bottom of my heart."

Meanwhile, eagle-eyed fans have slammed the forward for 'copy-pasting' the same farewell message as Fabio Silva, who left Wolves to join Borussia Dortmund.
