Victor Boniface was not going to tolerate anyone talking down on his fitness after sealing a deadline day transfer to Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old Super Eagles forward joined the Bundesliga club on loan after his proposed transfer to AC Milan fell through earlier in the transfer window.

Boniface had travelled to Milan to secure a deal with the Serie A giants after personal terms had been agreed, but after extensive medical checks, the Rossoneri decided to pull the plug on the deal.

Boniface was forced to return to Bayer Leverkusen after his heartbreak in Milan before he got the opportunity to join Werder Bremen on transfer deadline day.

Boniface hits out at journalist over fitness

During Boniface's first press conference as a Werder Bremen player, questions were raised about his fitness following his ordeal with AC Milan earlier on, per Bulinews.

The Super Eagles striker quickly shut down any talk questioning his fitness after hitting out at the journalist who asked the question.

“Whatever you want to believe on the media, you can believe them, that’s not on me… I don’t care. If my body is not 100%, I will be in the hospital. I will not be here talking to you.”

Fresh start in the Bundesliga

Boniface’s career at Bayer Leverkusen has been a mixture of highs and lows as he was the star of the team two seasons ago, winning the Rookie of the Year award in the Bundesliga, per One Football.

Last season, the Nigerian forward struggled with recurring injuries that limited his playing time as he lost his place to Patrick Schick in the starting line-up.

Nevertheless, when fit, Boniface showed glimpses of his immense quality, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in only 27 appearances in all competitions due to fitness concerns.

Bremen, who are looking to strengthen their attack for the new season, believe Boniface can rediscover the form that once made him one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.
