Bayern Munich have made a late push to sign Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, after their move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson fell apart in the final seconds.

Bayern Munich turn to Lookman

Bayern Munich had initially chased Werder Bremen striker Nick Woltemade, but the forward opted to join Newcastle United.

The German champions then shifted their attention to Jackson, reaching an agreement for the Chelsea man.

However, the move collapsed at the last minute after the London club decided to keep him, following Liam Delap’s injury.

With time running out, Bayern Munich switched focus to Lookman, submitting a loan offer with a significant fee and an option to buy the Nigerian winger, The Athletic reports.

The Bavarians see the reigning CAF Player of the Year as an ideal partner for Harry Kane, as they hope to sign one more attacker before the transfer window closes.

Atalanta rejects Bayern’s loan offer

Despite Bayern’s Munich’s efforts to sign Lookman, Atalanta wasted no time in rejecting the proposal.

Reports from Gazeta Express confirmed that the Italian side considers a loan move unacceptable for the Super Eagles forward.

Atalanta insists they will only agree to a permanent transfer, setting Lookman’s value at around €50 million, well above Bayern’s proposed €28 million option-to-buy clause.

Lookman, who previously played for RB Leipzig, has made it clear he wants to leave Atalanta this summer and had even submitted a transfer request in that regard.

Inter Milan had shown strong interest in the Nigerian winger earlier in the window, but Atalanta refused to sell him to a Serie A rival.

Other clubs interested in Lookman

Lookman has developed into one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards in the last three seasons.

In the 2023/24 season, he scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 appearances across competitions, and his crowning moment came in the Europa League final.

Lookman scored a hat-trick against unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, ending Atalanta’s 61-year trophy drought and securing their first-ever European title.

The Super Eagles winger’s form has attracted interest from other European clubs, as Tottenham Hotspur and Turkish champions Galatasaray are also monitoring the Nigerian international.

Unlike Bayern Munich, both teams are reportedly ready to negotiate a permanent transfer, something Atalanta would prefer.
