Atalanta fans have seemingly reignited their love for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman after his failed attempt to leave the Italian club after the 2024/25 Serie A season.

He had inspired La Dea to the 2023/24 UEFA Europa title, scoring a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen, before helping his team to the Coppa Italia final, where they lost to Juventus.

The 27-year-old then fell out with the club after former manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, labelled him as 'one of the worst penalty takers' after missing a spot kick against Club Brugge in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League group stage.

The Nerazzurri had a reported gentleman's agreement with the Nigerian player to release him after the end of the season, and as a result of that, the winger unfollowed the club and deleted all club-related posts from his handles.

Lookman also posted an emotional message on social media, suggesting that the club had failed to honour its promises and citing mistreatment despite the successes he was part of.

Ademola transfer to Inter Milan falls through

Lookman’s fallout with Atalanta began building when Inter Milan submitted a bid earlier in the summer, only for the Bergamo club to reject it.

The Nerazzurri's reported opening offer was a package worth €40 million, which the Nigerian forward's club was said to have 'swiftly rejected'.

Inter Milan then returned with an improved proposal of €45 million, plus add-ons, which was also turned down, according to Yahoo Sports.
