Nigerian international Victor Boniface has reached out to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano to delete a post over the botched AC Milan transfer.

The Italian giants abandoned their deal for the Super Eagles after he failed a medical test, raising concerns over his knee injury recovery timeline.

The 24-year-old Nigerian striker had suffered the injury during international duty with Nigeria's Super Eagles, and the potential transfer from Bayer Leverkusen involved a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million option to buy.

Boniface had arrived in Milan to finalise the switch, but the medical verdict forced the Rossoneri to walk away, dashing his hopes of joining the Italian giants, per Football Germany.

Following the reports, the Nigerian social media space was awash with comments linking the deal to the player's social media activity.

Some internet users blasted the striker, saying he spends more time on social media, urging him to focus on his professional career.

Boniface took to his Instagram story to label the critics as 'clowns'. He wrote in Pidgin English:

"I dey club lke Leverkusen and club like Milan want me and I no serious. So if I serious na club for jupiter I go dey play.
"Clowns everywhere. If I no serious and I dey play this level make I remain like that."

His comments were drawn out of context by Fabrizio, who posted that the 'clowns everywhere' was a reaction to the failed transfer.

In a swift move, the footballer sent a direct message to the Italian journalist. He wrote:

"Don't make this a big issue. This is about some Nigerian media. This has nothing to do with my transfer ok. You have to delete that statement. This has nothing to do with Milan or Leverkusen."

Meanwhile, fans have continued to react to the scenario on social media. agwabumma_ said:

"I wonder why people dislike this guy…..someone is just cool and enjoying social media like every other person.
"don’t even understand humans, he’s doing well in his career while having fun, it’s the fun part that’s biting people’s body."

@thelizzyadams added:

"Fabrizo posted a statement he doesn’t even understand, leaving people to wonder if Victor was calling the football clubs CLOWNS.
"As Nigerians I was expecting more of us also helping him state that the comment has nothing to do with the clubs.
"But most Nigerians are here telling Victor, a fully grown man how he should have been more mature !! Why must you find a fault with everything?"

etukudoefiong posited:

"If you understand pidgin you'd know that this is neither about Leverkusen nor Milan.
"He's clearly referring to people that call him unserious and he's citing these two big clubs as reasons why you can't leave him unserious because he's attracting interest from big guns."
