“Audio Money”: Nigerians React As Super Falcons Captain Claims FG Is Yet to Fulfill ₦152m Pledge

  • Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu is yet to reward the members of the Super Falcons with the promised ₦152 million
  • Tinubu hosted the squad at the State House on July 28 after winning their 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco
  • Concerned football stakeholders urged the players to exercise patience, while appealing to the president to hasten payment

Nigeria beat host Morocco 3-2 to win the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final on July 26.

The Super Falcons were two goals down at halftime before staging a comeback in the second half to lift their 10th title out of 13 appearances.

The victorious women's team returned to the country as they were welcomed by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, selected governors, and ministers.

The elated players were ushered to the Aso Rock Villa, where President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, received them.

President Tinubu announced that each player would be rewarded with ₦152 million ($100,000) each and an equivalent of ₦76 million ($50,000) to each technical team member.

He also conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger on the players and gifted them a three-bedroom apartment.

Meanwhile, Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade made a bold statement that the Super Falcons players are yet to receive $100,000 reward promised by President Bola Tinubu, per Daily Post. She said:

"We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid, all the promises, we have not received anything, so let them know".

Be patient with President Tinubu - Oku

Nigeria sports journalist David Oku has appealed to members of the Super Falcons to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in an exclusive comment with Legit.ng, Oku explained that the money will be paid directly into the account of the players and not the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC).

He said President Bola Tinubu has never failed to fulfil his promise. Oku said:

"Tinubu never promises and fails. Falcons & D'Tigress wan drag Jagaban ni? Please be patient as the money will be paid to their accounts, including those of the technical teams.
"Note: the money isn't paid into the NFF or NSC account, which is why their account numbers were taken."

President Tinubu rewards D'Tigress

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Tinubu also rewarded each player of the D’Tigress team with $100,000 and a new apartment for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The team members were also conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
